11. Bring consent out of the bedroom. I think part of the reason we have trouble drawing the line “it’s not okay to force someone into sexual activity” is that in many ways, forcing people to do things is part of our culture in general. Cut that shit out of your life. If someone doesn’t want to go to a party, try a new food, get up and dance, make small talk at the lunchtable—that’s their right. Stop the “aww c’mon” and “just this once” and the games where you playfully force someone to play along. Accept that no means no—all the time.

Even out of the micro-“lunch table” type examples, the idea of non-consent is so pervasively intertwined in western/north american culture. it is cousins to the “i know, better than you, what is best for you”. obviously, my first thought is the obesity crisis and the media myths that go along with it, but even broader speaking; neoliberal politics and policies. someday soon i will get into it a bit more, but rape culture, isn’t just about sex. and consent isn’t just about the bedroom.

Just wanted to object to the notion that it’s only Western/Northern American culture, like it’s all in the Americas that this happens. Otherwise, this has some good points.
